Biography

Oreet Ashery is a London based artist and an educationalist, working in an international context across performance, objects, still-and-moving-image, events, situations and writing. The work is self-determinately sociopolitically engaged and context-specific, yet accessible, humorous and marked by a conceptual turn in trash and DIY aesthetic.

Most recently Ashery produced Party for Freedom, an Artangel and Performance Matters commission in 2013, looking at western freedom rhetoric, The World is Flooding, a Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall commission, 2014, The Unclean, a nine meters banner for the front of Secession building in Vienna, 2014. Ashery held a solo exhibition at Waterside Contemporary, London and Campagne Première, Berlin, titled Animal with a Language. Ashery is a Visiting Professor at the Painting Department at the RCA and the 2014-5 Stanley Picker Fine Art Fellow. Ashery’s work is published and discussed in numerous art and cultural publication in many languages and her work is exhibited, performed and screened in museums, galleries, biennials and context-specific locations.
